A little preachy in places, this was a nice movie with a good story. Leonard Nimoy-- who would have thought how good looking he was!

Subject: Never mind the priest
A young Leonard „Spock“ Nimoy is probably the best reason to watch this film. Nimoy plays the young angry youth fighting for survival in the slums. Dirty fighter he is he becomes a boxer, what else you might say in such a surrounding.
But inside he is good. Who would have thought that? And there is the young girl who admires him despite his damaged face. So far, so realistic.
Fortunately our young hero from the gutter knows „father“, the benevolent priest. He helps Nimoy. And there is the community which is poor but astonishing clean. But in the course of events Nimoy gets distracted from the right path, despite the lovely girl - the angel - and „father“. He falls into the hands of... of course the slutty woman (the whore), and also of course, the slimy manager and the evil syndicate. So he has to take a severe beatings as a punishment.
Finally there is the inevitable happy end. But what happened to his permanent shortage of income? No one knows: he is married, a member of the church community, his parents are happy again, no boxer any more.
Nimoy is acting fine. When it comes to the psychological aspect of his person, he gives the character a realistic dimension. That makes the film worth seeing. This is really a proof of his talent in this otherwise phony setting, where the slum kid survives without tackling the actual problems, that is money, and everyone around him is loving and understanding.

They intentionally left the credits off so you wouldn't pee yourself when you seen the ancient copyright notice and try to get it banned.

Subject: Nice to see this film again
It's been a long time since last I saw this film, but thanks to the uploader, here it is.
Of special interest of course is the very young Leonard Nimoy in the lead, the same year he was a Zombie of the Stratosphere but long before he became Star Trek's Mr. Spock. Also of interest is the presence of Jack Larson, who was Jimmy Olsen in the classic TV series The Adventures of Superman. To me, it's worth viewing this odd b-film just to see these gentlemen.
Alas, this is yet another threadbare Jack Broder production with Herman Cohen around for laughs, and while it's not nearly as entertaining as their Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla, it's easier to endure than Bride of the Gorilla. (Do I detect a running theme? Gorillas and boxing?)

Trekkies will get a kick out of this. A rather dull script to other much better rise of the slum kid to semi-'Rocky' status movies as portrayed by John Garfield and Kirk Douglas for that time period. The ending left me wondering if the script writer had simply quit the project. Excellent print quality and interesting in that Leonard Nimoy's feature debut the special effects crew were already remaking his face.

I downloaded the Mpg4 version and it is complete with credits. Also a very sharp copy--always good to see. Haven't watched it yet though.

The quality appears good, but where are the opening Titles and credits? The film starts with a bunch of punks sawing up a staircase!
